Browser's VM Version Test-Framework

Information about the browser you are using to view this page, obtained from its Java virtual machine, is listed below:

The applet above is JDK 1.0.2 compliant and should run on any browser which is Java enabled. (The applet was taken from the Volano Site.) It lists the virtual machine properties got by System.getProperty(key). But the information provided in this way is rather limited and serves just as a starting point for further investigations. I coded a more complete test applet to create a test framework. The framework contains several pages with applets to test your browser's VM. The applets may be run in any order.

• Applet performs the version information test for the <APPLET> tag which generally invokes the browser's internal Java virtual machine.
• Embed uses the same applet inside an <EMBED> tag which generally invokes the Java Plugin for Netscape Navigator.
• Embed Mac tests the <EMBED> tag of a special type which invokes the MRJ Plugin for Netscape running under Macintosh OS 9.
• Object runs the same test for an <OBJECT> tag which generally invokes the Java Plugin for Internet Explorer.
• JS/Applet checks if the browser's Javascript is able to call methods of a Java applet.
